Brothers & Sisters
The Al Sahouri family is very proud to introduce to you Olive Wood Art. This collection comes directly to you from Bethlehem and contains the best religious figurines from the Holy Land.
Christians suffer in many parts of the world, but one unique group stands out by their significance for the family of faith. The Christians of the middle east live in the land where Jesus walked, taught, suffered, and died. Today their numbers are greatly reduced, and they struggle to survive in the land made holy by Christ. Little Bethlehem Christian Group offers religious items, carved from the olive wood of the holy land to support and help fund the churches of our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land.
The tradition of Olive wood carving in the Holy Land has been handed down from father to son since the 12th century. Originally introduced by the Crusaders, the craft has been perfected by centuries of local master carvers. My designs are brought to you by the workmanship of over 300 families. The carving wood comes from the olive trees some of which are over 300 years old, which have a unique beauty, and quality that is not found in other wood.
The olive tree is chosen for more than its appearance. It has a history of religious significance with many references in the Bible. Proverbs refer to olive and its reputed power as “ tree of life to them that grasp it, and to them, that would uphold it, everyone is rendered happy.” Also, Olive woods were used to make the cross of Jesus Christ. God promised afterward that the olive trees would be a symbol of peace and beauty for the world.
As the Little Bethlehem Christians Group, and as the Al-Sahouri family, which is one of the first families in Beit Sahour, we are proud to make such tradition as carving able to continue.
